Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to conduct ventilation operations in coal mining, including auxiliary fan, venturi blower, stoppings and brattice line.It applies to those working in operational roles. They generally work under supervision to undertake a prescribed range of functions involving known routines and procedures and take some responsibility for the quality of work outcomes.Licensing, legislative and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories and industry sectors. Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare to conduct ventilation operations
- 1.1 Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
- 1.2 Access, interpret and apply documentation required to conduct ventilation operations
- 1.3 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures according to site requirements
- 1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment according to site requirements
- 1.5 Access, interpret and apply mine environmental data required to complete allocated work
- 1.6 Obtain, transport and prepare materials and resources required for the work
- 1.7 Obtain and interpret emergency procedures and identify steps required to respond to emergencies
2. Ventilate operations
- 2.1 Communicate work activities with others within scope of own role
- 2.2 Prepare worksite according to job requirements
- 2.3 Install and extend brattice and vent tubes according to job and site requirements
- 2.4 Erect temporary stoppings to sequence plan according to job requirements
- 2.5 Monitor hazards and risks and confirm safe operation of plant and equipment
- 2.6 Report ventilation status according to site requirements
3. Maintain ventilation
- 3.1 Monitor ventilation conditions within scope of own role
- 3.2 Obtain, transport and prepare replacement materials and equipment according to job requirements
- 3.3 Carry out minor maintenance according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
- 3.4 Carry out housekeeping activities according to site requirements
- 3.5 Maintain records and complete reports according to site requirements
