Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to access, place and remove audible track warning device in accordance with legislative and regulatory requirements. It includes accessing, placing and removing of audible track warning devices in accordance with legislative requirements, organisational and/or network owner policies and procedures.People achieving competence in this unit will need to fulfil the applicable state/territory legislated rail safety requirements and to comply with relevant codes of practice and/or guidelines.Audible track warning devices are used to warn rail traffic crews and rail safety workers within the rail corridor. Audible track warning devices are also known as:railway track signalsaudible safety signalling devices.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Access and transport audible track warning devices
- 1.1 Required audible track warning devices are obtained in accordance with organisational procedures
- 1.2 Hazards are identified, risks assessed and risk control measures implemented
- 1.3 Audible track warning devices are checked to ensure they are within their use-by date in accordance with legislative requirements, organisational and/or network owner policies and procedures
- 1.4 Audible track warning devices are stored and transported in accordance with legislative requirements, organisational and/or rail network owner policies and procedures
- 1.5 Documentation is completed in accordance with organisational procedures
2 Place audible track warning devices
- 2.1 Advice is confirmed as to where the audible track warning devices are to be placed
- 2.2 Audible track warning devices are placed in accordance with organisational and/or rail network owner policies and procedures
- 2.3 Safe distances from audible track warning devices are maintained in accordance with organisational and/or rail network owner policies and procedures
- 2.4 Others are advised of safe distances to be maintained from audible track warning devices in accordance with organisational and/or network owner policies and procedures
3 Remove audible track warning devices
- 3.1 Audible track warning devices are removed as advised in accordance with organisational and/or rail network owner policies and procedures
- 3.2 Unused audible track warning devices are stored and returned in accordance with organisational and/or network owner policies and procedures
4 Dispose of audible track warning devices
- 4.1 Out-of-date audible track warning devices are removed from service and returned in accordance with organisational and/or rail network owner policies and procedures
- 4.2 Defective audible track warning devices are removed from service, reported and returned in accordance with organisational and/or network owner policies and procedures
- 4.3 Documentation is completed in accordance with organisational and/or network owner policies and procedures
