Description
This qualification is for a person engaged in train driving activities.
It involves a broad range of specialised knowledge and skills in varied contexts to undertake skilled work within a train driving environment.
It may include skills and knowledge required for specialised tasks or functions in known or changing contexts with responsibility for own functions and outputs.
Job roles
This qualification is aligned to the following defined roles:
electric passenger train driver
freight train driver
heavy haul train driver
locomotive driver
train driver.
Please note: RTO to insert on the testamur, the specialist elective unit group selected from the group choice below.

Packaging Rules
A total of twenty one (21) units of competency comprising:- Twelve (12) core units listed below, plus
- all units within one of the specialist elective unit groups (job roles) from Group A, Group B, Group C, Group D or Group E listed below, plus
- Four (4) elective units from Group F general elective units listed below or remaining units not selected from a specialist elective unit group.
Up to two (2) of the general elective units may be selected from any relevant nationally endorsed Training Package. The general elective units must contribute to the vocational outcomes of the qualification.
Where imported units are selected, care must be taken to ensure that all prerequisite units specified are complied with.
1. Core units
All twelve (12) units must be completed.
2. Group A: Freight
All the units within one (1) specialist elective group, Group A, B, C, D or E must be completed.
