Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to service and maintain conveyors, feeders and hoppers in the resources and infrastructure industries.It applies to those working in supervisory and technical specialist roles. They generally work under minimal supervision to undertake a broad range of skilled applications in varied work contexts, using some discretion and judgement in selecting equipment, services or contingency measures.Licensing, legislative and certification requirements may apply to this unit and can vary between states, territories and industry sectors. Users must check requirements with relevant body before applying the unit.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare for service and maintenance of conveyors, feeders and hoppers
  • 1.1 Obtain, interpret and confirm work requirements
  • 1.2 Access, interpret and apply documentation required to service and maintain conveyors, feeders and hoppers
  • 1.3 Identify, address and report potential hazards, risks and environmental issues, and implement control measures according to workplace procedures
  • 1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for the work activity
  • 1.5 Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for emergency situations
  • 1.6 Coordinate activities with relevant personnel prior to commencement of, during, and on completion of the work
  • 1.7 Inspect and prepare work area in coordination with others
  • 1.8 Carry out isolation and lock-out of all equipment according to workplace procedures
2. Carry out service and repairs of conveyors, feeders and hoppers
  • 2.1 Coordinate with others prior to commencing and during work activities
  • 2.2 Carry out inspection of conveyors, feeders and hoppers, fault find and report outcomes to relevant personnel according to workplace procedures
  • 2.3 Select and operate servicing and maintenance plant and equipment
  • 2.4 Carry out servicing and maintenance of conveyors, feeders and hoppers
  • 2.5 Dispose of waste, including used oil, lubricants and other materials according to workplace procedures
  • 2.6 Return and secure all tools and re-usable items
  • 2.7 Process written maintenance records according to workplace procedures
