Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to implement grain monitoring measures.It includes installing and checking grain quality control equipment and monitoring the quality of stored commodities in accordance with workplace requirements. Work is performed under some supervision, generally within a team or group environment. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Install grain quality control equipment
- 1.1 Procedures for maintaining the quality of stored grain are identified from work plans, climatic conditions, types of storage and general environment
- 1.2 Hazards are identified, risks are assessed and control measures are implemented
- 1.3 Aeration equipment is installed to maintain appropriate grain temperature and moisture content in accordance with workplace and site requirements
- 1.4 Inspection and sampling equipment is confirmed and implemented in accordance with workplace procedures
- 1.5 Equipment is maintained and checked to ensure correct set-up and operation in accordance with manufacturer instructions
- 1.6 Rectification of faults in equipment is undertaken in accordance with workplace procedures
2 Monitor the quality of stored grains
- 2.1 Stored grains and associated facilities are inspected for sign of damage or potential for damage
- 2.2 Required repairs to facilities are reported to relevant personnel for action
- 2.3 Monitoring for pest infestations and climatic contamination or damage to grain is completed in accordance with workplace sampling and inspection procedures
- 2.4 Results of sampling and inspections are recorded and documented in accordance with workplace procedures
- 2.5 Follow-up action to protect grain quality is undertaken in accordance with workplace procedures
