This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to implement security procedures to protect critical infrastructure and public assets. Critical infrastructure is those physical facilities, supply chains, information technologies and communication networks which, if destroyed, degraded or rendered unavailable for an extended period, would significantly impact the social or economic well-being of the nation or affect Australia’s ability to conduct national defence and ensure national security. Critical infrastructure provides essential services such as power, water, health services, communication and financial systems.The unit includes:reviewing and complying with work instructions, workplace procedures and policies and legal rights and responsibilities when protecting critical infrastructure and public assetsimplementing security procedures to monitor security of the work area and maintain situational awareness, and identify and respond appropriately to indicators of terrorist or criminal activity and potential security threats in collaboration with othersusing communication equipment to report and receive instructions to respond to identified security threats.It applies to people working independently or under limited supervision as members of a security team.This unit may form part of the licensing requirements for people engaged in security operations in those states and territories where these are regulated activities.
