This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to conduct wet filling activities in Metalliferous mining.This unit is appropriate for those working in operational roles. Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories, and Industry sectors. Relevant information must be sourced prior to application of the unit.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare for wet filling
  • 1.1. Access, interpret and apply wet filling documentation, and ensure the work activity is compliant
  • 1.2. Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work instructions
  • 1.3. Select and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
  • 1.4. Use approved dust suppression and extraction methods
  • 1.5. Select, and check for faults, equipment/tools for the activity
  • 1.6. Conduct equipment pre-start checks and start up procedures
  • 1.7. Identify, address and report environmental issues, potential risks and hazards
  • 1.8. Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency
  • 1.9. Inspect and assess site conditions and determine if scaling is required
  • 1.10. Ensure work area is well ventilated before entry
2. Fill voids
  • 2.1 Fill void in controlled manner according to characteristics of fill
3. Drain and monitor fill
  • 3.1. Manage and monitor drainage system according to engineering specifications
  • 3.2. Inspect bulkheads for faults, water flow and/or defects
  • 3.3. Monitor and manage dimensions of fill using approved indicators
  • 3.4. Process written and verbal records and reporting requirements
