Description
This unit of competency defines the skills and knowledge required to design and compile a portfolio to showcase jewellery or 3D objects. The portfolio can be used for career promotion, sales and marketing, historical record or reference and includes images that present works both on and off the body. This unit does not cover the manufacture of such objects and if items are to be manufactured then appropriate units should also be selected.This unit applies to jewellery and object designers.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Develop design portfolio concepts
  • 1.1 Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
  • 1.2 Establish the purpose and objectives of the design portfolio
  • 1.3 Research concepts or presentation styles and select ideas and concepts that match the purpose and function of the jewellery or object presentation material
  • 1.4 Document ideas and concept development using media suited to the presentation style
  • 1.5 Identify constraints and limitations in presenting jewellery or objects in various formats on and off the body, and determine implications for folio concept
  • 1.6 Select portfolio concept based on practical considerations and suitability for the function, purpose and objectives of jewellery or objects to be displayed
2. Collect and prepare source materials
  • 2.1 Collect and prepare drawings, sketches, jewellery, objects and works for photographing, illustrating or other processing
  • 2.2 Select images that present works on and off the body to portray key features of the item
  • 2.3 Select display formats for individual portfolio items that emphasise message and meaning
  • 2.4 Identify and obtain required resources for producing design portfolio
  • 2.5 Produce required design documentation using appropriate media and formats
3. Compile design portfolio
  • 3.1 Arrange and sequence portfolio elements for required visual effect
  • 3.2 Confirm that the completed portfolio is consistent with aims and objectives
  • 3.3 Check the completed portfolio for accuracy of content and consistency of arrangement, layout and style
  • 3.4 Ensure adherence to protocols, conventions and industry standards
4. Finalise drawing for presentation
  • 4.1 Organise the production of working and reference drawings in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • 4.2 Handle and use working and reference drawings in accordance with SOPs
  • 4.3 Prepare required supporting information to accompany drawings
