Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes required to install, and replace and adjust mechanical units and assemblies.It applies to those in an automotive manufacturing environment and involves the application of skills and knowledge at a production worker level.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare
  • 1.1 Drawings and work orders are interpreted to establish work requirements
  • 1.2 Lifting gear is selected and operated according to workplace procedures
  • 1.3 Tools and equipment are selected and inspected and faults reported
2. Install and test mechanical units and assemblies
  • 2.1 Fasteners, fittings and materials are selected for installation
  • 2.2 Mechanical units and assemblies are installed and tested according to job specifications and work health and safety (WHS) procedures
  • 2.3 Tools and equipment are used to install and replace assemblies
3. Remove, replace and test mechanical units and assemblies
  • 3.1 Assembly information is accessed and interpreted from manufacturer specifications
  • 3.2 Mechanical units and assemblies are removed and replaced according to manufacturer specifications and WHS procedures
  • 3.3 Mechanical units and assemblies are tested according to manufacturer specifications
4. Complete work processes
  • 4.1 Work area, tools and equipment are cleaned, checked and stored according to workplace procedures
  • 4.2 Faulty equipment is identified, tagged and reported
  • 4.3 Waste material is collected, recycled or disposed of according to workplace procedures
  • 4.4 Workplace documents are completed according to workplace procedures
