Description
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to prepare, load and operate automated washing equipment.This unit applies to individuals who work under direct supervision.All work must be carried out to comply with workplace procedures according to state/territory health and safety and food safety regulations, legislation and standards that apply to the workplace.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare washing equipment for operation
- 1.1 Read or listen to work instructions from supervisor and ask for clarification where necessary
- 1.2 Identify health and safety hazards and food safety hazards, and inform supervisor
- 1.3 Use appropriate personal protective equipment according to workplace procedures
- 1.4 Identify and load items to be washed according to job specifications
- 1.5 Confirm equipment and services are ready for use
- 1.6 Select wash cycle settings to meet safety and wash requirements
2. Operate and monitor the equipment
- 2.1 Conduct pre-start checks according to workplace procedures
- 2.2 Measure and load cleaning agent into dispenser
- 2.3 Operate equipment and monitor to identify variation in operating conditions
- 2.4 Report any variation in equipment operation to supervisor
- 2.5 Shut equipment down safely according to workplace procedures
- 2.6 Unload washed items, and position in required location
- 2.7 Keep work area clean and tidy according to health, safety, environmental and food safety procedures
- 2.8 Clean equipment and complete records, as required by workplace procedures
