Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to prepare paint drying equipment. This unit involves preparing for the task, selecting and using specialist tools and equipment, setting, operating and maintaining paint drying equipment to manufacturer specifications, and completing workplace processes and documentation.The unit applies to those working in the automotive paint refinishing repair industry.No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare for work
- 1.1 Identify job requirements from workplace instructions
- 1.2 Identify hazards associated with the work, assess potential risks and implement control measures in line with workplace policies and procedures
- 1.3 Identify tools, equipment and chemicals required for repair activity and establish serviceability according to workplace procedures
2. Set up paint drying equipment ready for operation
- 2.1 Set up paint drying equipment and check for correct operation, according to workplace procedures and manufacturer specifications
- 2.2 Organise vehicle protection materials according to workplace procedures
- 2.3 Set up and operate drying equipment according to workplace procedures, workplace health and safety and environmental requirements
- 2.4 Perform regularly scheduled checks, cleaning and maintenance on paint drying equipment according to manufacturer specifications
3. Complete work processes
- 3.1 Conduct final inspection according to workplace procedures and confirm vehicle is ready for use
- 3.2 Clear work area and dispose of or recycle materials according to workplace procedures
- 3.3 Complete documentation according to workplace procedures
