Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to create garment patterns for standard sizes from existing blocks using patternmaking techniques that include contouring, square blocking, pivoting and advanced dart manipulation.This unit applies to individuals working in accordance with pre-determined designs and established procedures. They use discretion, judgement and problem solving to test and alter patterns.No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Determine pattern requirements
- 1.1 Identify job requirements from work documentation
- 1.2 Select and prepare required patternmaking tools, equipment and materials
- 1.3 Interpret design specifications, and identify design lines and style features
- 1.4 Determine ease allowance and obtain details of base size
2. Create patterns
- 2.1 Select appropriate block to develop pattern and retrieve from storage system
- 2.2 Select and use appropriate patternmaking methods and formulas to achieve required outcome
- 2.3 Check pattern pieces, label and complete markings
3. Check and finalise patterns
- 3.1 Toile pattern to assess if garment meets specifications
- 3.2 Make any necessary alterations to finalise pattern and check it is accurate, complete and complies with design specifications
- 3.3 Complete pattern specification sheets with trade drawings, attach to patterns for storage and file appropriately
