This unit covers the skills and knowledge skills required to perform the tasks associated with making or copying millinery from a flat pattern.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Confirm pattern requirements
- 1.1 Pattern requirements for millinery are confirmed
- 1.2 Construction requirements are identified
2 Prepare materials
- 2.1 Materials required for millinery are prepared for use
- 2.2 Pattern is checked to confirm sizing
- 2.3 Minor adjustments are made to the pattern, where required
- 2.4 Fabric or material is checked for faults to ensure conformance to standards
- 2.5 Fabric or material is laid-up for cutting, as required
3 Cut material or fabric to pattern
- 3.1 Cutting tools and equipment, appropriate for the fabric, are selected
- 3.2 Laid-up material or fabric is cut to meet the pattern specifications
- 3.3 Cut work is inspected to ensure conformance to work specification
- 3.4 Faults are rectified and reported, where required
4 Fuse and sew millinery
- 4.1 Millinery pieces are matched and sewn or fused to meet the requirements of the pattern specifications
- 4.2 Machine operation is assessed in accordance with workplace and OHS practices
- 4.3 Sewn or fused pieces are inspected for quality and conformance to specifications
- 4.4 Faults are identified and appropriate action taken to ensure quality standards are met, where required
- 4.5 Recording and reporting is undertaken
