Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes required to manufacture or modify wiring harnesses. It includes modifying the existing wiring harness to customer requirements, making a new wiring harness, and testing the finished product.It applies to those in an automotive manufacturing environment and involves the application of skills and knowledge at a specialist level.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare for work
  • 1.1 Workplace instructions are reviewed and wiring harness is inspected to determine job requirements
  • 1.2 Wiring harness manufacture or modification options are analysed, selected and prepared
  • 1.3 Tools and equipment are identified for the effective manufacture or modification of wiring harness
  • 1.4 Materials for the manufacture or modification are identified and sourced
2. Manufacture, modify and test
  • 2.1 Manufacturer wiring diagrams and specifications are identified and interpreted
  • 2.2 Wiring harness is manufactured or modified to job specifications using appropriate tools, techniques and materials
  • 2.3 Harness is tested prior to placing in service and results are recorded
3. Complete work processes
  • 3.1 Final inspection is made to ensure work is to workplace quality standard
  • 3.2 Tools and equipment are cleaned, checked and stored according to workplace procedures
  • 3.3 Faulty equipment is identified, tagged and reported
  • 3.4 Work sheets and test result documents are completed according to workplace procedures
