This unit of competency describes the outcomes required to test heavy structural and engineered products in line with product quality specifications. The unit includes establishing specifications and test methods, conducting and interpreting tests, and reporting findings.The unit applies to those working in a forest and wood products factory setting.No licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Prepare for testing
  • 1.1 Review and check work order.
  • 1.2 Obtain type and quantity of products to be tested are acquired from the storage location.
  • 1.3 Select equipment and check for operational effectiveness in line with manufacturer instructions.
  • 1.4 Follow workplace procedures to plan testing.
2. Implement procedures to test heavy structural and engineered products
  • 2.1 Select heavy structural and engineered products for testing in line with
  • 2.2 Conduct test in line with established test methods and quality assurance procedures.
  • 2.3 Identify testing problems are identified and resolved or report these.
  • 2.4 Obtain test results and compare data are made against product specifications.
3. Report outcomes of test
  • 3.1 Identify potential or existing problems that might affect product quality and make recommendations for improvement.
