This unit of competency defines the skills and knowledge required to produce one-off wax models.This unit is not intended to include fine wire filigree work. Where the use of computer aided equipment for modelling is required unit MEM09009 Create 2-D drawings using computer-aided design system and unit MEM09010 Create 3-D models using computer-aided design system, should also be selected as appropriate.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.Band: AUnit Weight: 4

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Determine job requirements
  • 1.1 Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • 1.2 Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
  • 1.3 Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs
  • 1.4 Identify job requirements from specifications, drawings, job sheets or work instructions
2 Prepare materials for production of wax model
  • 2.1 Select waxes and tools
  • 2.2 Cut stock materials
3 Produce and finish wax models
  • 3.1 Optimise material use and production time
  • 3.2 Sculpt wax to specifications
  • 3.3 Minimise imperfections in final wax model
  • 3.4 Apply surface finishes
4 Assess suitability of final wax product
  • 4.1 Inspect product for compliance with specifications
  • 4.2 Modify final product, as necessary
