Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to conduct an inspection of electric power generating plant and associated equipment.Aninspectionis an organisedexamination of power generation plant and equipment exposed to conditions that can cause deterioration. Power generation plant and equipment should be inspected at regular intervals. Competency in this unit requires the ability to inspect power generating plant, gain safe access to work area for inspection, conduct inspections and report and/or record the results. Individuals will, in general, work under supervision, in a power generation facility as an operator.Power generation plant operators are trained and authorised to isolate, prepare plant and issue permits to work.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Prepare for power plantinspection
- 1.1 Maintenance and operating history for inspection is obtained for process plant to be inspected in accordance with workplace procedures
- 1.2 Work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations, legislative requirements, codes of practice, manufacturers’ recommendations and specifications, environmental requirements and workplace procedures are identified, applied and monitored
- 1.3 Inspection requirements for power generation plant are determined and confirmed in accordance with workplace procedures
- 1.4 Relevant inspection checklists, recording equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) are obtained in accordance with workplace procedures
- 1.5 Availability and access to power generation plant is determined and isolation processes conducted in accordance with workplace procedures
- 1.6 Hazards are identified in preparations for plant inspection and risk control measures are implemented in accordance with workplace procedures
2 Inspect electric power generating plant
- 2.1 Power generation plant is inspected in accordance with workplace procedures
- 2.2 Power generation plant is identified and operational status determined in accordance with workplace procedures
- 2.3 Inspection is conducted using approved methods in accordance with workplace procedures
- 2.4 Inspection requirements are completed in accordance with workplace procedures
3 Complete documentation
- 3.1 Records are updated in accordance with workplace procedures
- 3.2 Documentation is maintained in accordance with workplace procedures
