Description
This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to manage own work, professional development and ethical behaviour as a Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS) assessor. It includes managing own work performance, setting and meeting own work priorities, developing and maintaining personal competence, modelling ethical practice, meeting accreditation and licensing arrangements, and complying with organisational quality assurance arrangements.

1 Manage own work performance.
- 1.1 Personal qualities appropriate to the NatHERS assessment environment are identified, evaluated and demonstrated.
- 1.2 Effective communication strategies are employed to establish rapport with clients, determine client needs, give accurate advice to clients, and provide follow-up services.
- 1.3 Stable work performance is consistently maintained in a range of work situations.
- 1.4 Difficult workplace situations are recognised; addressed promptly, safely and sensitively; and concluded positively.
- 1.5 Personal presentation requirements are established and met.
- 1.6 Situations in which specialist advice is required are identified and sources of specialist advice on NatHERS software, protocols and assessment are determined.
2 Set and meet own work priorities.
- 2.1 Competing demands for work time and priority action are assessed and organised to achieve individual, team and organisational work priorities.
- 2.2 Activities are managed effectively to accomplish personal, team and organisational goals and objectives.

4 Model ethical practice.
- 4.1 Ethical and conduct standards relevant to NatHERS assessors are identified and applied in providing services to clients.

A person should demonstrate the ability to:
demonstrate personal motivation and commitment to the work role
manage day-to-day responsibilities and conflicting demands as a NatHERS assessor in an efficient and cooperative manner
relate positively to clients, fellow workers and the management team
assess personal strengths and weaknesses, and plan and implement an appropriate personal development plan
demonstrate ethical practice and compliance with the requirements of the appropriate industry accreditation or licensing body in conducting NatHERS assessments
comply with organisational quality assurance requirements for NatHERS assessments
have knowledge of the accreditation and licensing requirements for NatHERS assessors.

Assessment of this unit:
must be in the context of the work environment
may be conducted in an off-site context, provided it is realistic and sufficiently rigorous to cover all aspects of workplace performance, including task skills, task management skills, contingency management skills and job role environment skills
