Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to extend basic skill development in singing or playing a musical instrument, and to perform simple repertoire as part of an ensemble.The unit applies to those who have some prior musical experience and who perform in an ensemble.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare for performances as a group
- 1.1 Discuss conventions and different roles within the ensemble with ensemble members and required personnel
- 1.2 Confirm own role and that of others in ensemble
- 1.3 Select repertoire suited to performance skills of ensemble members in consultation with required personnel and determine performance arrangements
- 1.4 Discuss musical structure, style and form requirements with group members and required personnel
- 1.5 Set up and perform warm-up routine in line with safety practices
- 1.6 Practise performing pieces together as a group, taking and giving cues as required
- 1.7 Identify areas of improvement in collaboration with other group members and incorporate into practice sessions
2. Perform simple pieces as part of an ensemble
- 2.1 Take and give cues and contribute to a cohesive performance
- 2.2 Synchronise own performance with that of other ensemble members
- 2.3 Maintain required timing of own musical entries and exits throughout performance
- 2.4 Apply listening skills and adjust own performing as necessary to achieve required sound
- 2.5 Comply with work health and safety requirements during performance
3. Review performances
- 3.1 Review and discuss group performance and agree on ways to improve performances
- 3.2 Seek feedback from required personnel and develop strategies to improve performance
