Description
This unit of competency defines the skills and knowledge required to prepare, erect and dismantle scaffolding and equipment for maintenance and installation in a workshop and in factories, manufacturing plants and warehouses. Where interpretation of technical drawings is required unit MEM09002 Interpret technical drawing should also be selected.Where the selection and use of engineering measurement is required unit MEM12023 Perform engineering measurements should also be selected.Where the selection and use of power tools/hand held operations is required unit MEM18002 Use power tools/hand held operations should also be selected.Depending on the equipment being used a high risk work licence may be required and users should check with the relevant authorities.Band: AUnit Weight: 4

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Determine job requirements
- 1.1 Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- 1.2 Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
- 1.3 Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs
- 1.4 Interpret site plans, scaffolding/equipment designs and drawings to industry practices, as necessary
2 Prepare to erect scaffold/equipment
- 2.1 Inspect work area to identify hazards and implement appropriate prevention/control measures to avoid hazard
- 2.2 Prepare erection site to meet job requirements
- 2.3 Place necessary signage and barriers and third-party protection measures in appropriate position
3 Erect scaffold/equipment
- 3.1 Select and inspect appropriate scaffolding/equipment components and label and reject damaged components
- 3.2 Erect scaffolding/equipment to plan and in accordance with safe work practices, Australian Standards, state and territory legislative requirements and equipment manufacturers' requirements
- 3.3 Check the completed scaffolding/equipment for safety and operational requirements
- 3.4 Leave site clear of all surplus components, equipment, tools and debris
4 Inspect, repair and alter scaffold/equipment
- 4.1 Repair or send for repair rejected components
- 4.2 Inspect the scaffolding/equipment for damage, corrosion and wear
- 4.3 Carry out any alteration or repair in accordance with safe work practices and legislative requirements
- 4.4 Complete any inspection log, as required
5 Dismantle scaffold/equipment
- 5.1 Inspect scaffolding/equipment for damage, corrosion or wear and note for consideration in planning for dismantling
- 5.2 Dismantle scaffolding/equipment in accordance with site procedures, state and territory legislative requirements and critical structural and safety requirements
- 5.3 Clean and clear site of all tools, excess material and debris and leave in a safe state
