Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes required to assemble vehicle frames, axles, suspension and associated components.It applies to those in an automotive manufacturing environment and involves the application of skills and knowledge at a production worker level.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare assembly
  • 1.1 Interpret materials, parts, drawings and work orders to establish work requirements
  • 1.2 Identify, select and operate lifting equipment according to workplace procedures
  • 1.3 Select and inspect tools and equipment, reporting any faults
2. Cut, drill and weld chassis frame
  • 2.1 Cut chassis as specified in work order and working drawings
  • 2.2 Drill holes that comply in size and position with drawing specifications
  • 2.3 Weld chassis rails according to workplace procedures, drawing specifications and, if applicable, standards
3. Fit axles, suspension, brackets, fixtures and service lines
  • 3.1 Select and use fasteners according to drawing specifications
  • 3.2 Assemble and attach axles, suspension, brackets and fixtures to chassis
  • 3.3 Fit and tension bolts and fasteners to specifications
  • 3.4 Route, fasten, tie and clip service lines to specifications
4. Complete work processes
  • 4.1 Clean, inspect and store work area, tools and equipment according to workplace procedures
  • 4.2 Identify, tag and report faulty equipment
  • 4.3 Collect waste material, and recycle or dispose of according to workplace procedures
  • 4.4 Record workflow and production schedule and complete workplace documents
