Description
This unit describes the skills required to inspect and report on river flow performance including flood plains and river environment. This includes monitoring river conditions, water quality, maintaining integrity of the bank, regulating and monitoring flows.This unit applies to field staff with the responsibility of inspecting rivers.The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to.Those undertaking this unit would work under supervision, performing routine tasks, in familiar contexts.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to unit at the time of publication.

1. Establish river performance requirements
  • 1.1 Establish legislative and organisational requirements.
  • 1.2 Establish the river conditions.
  • 1.3 Identify environmental factors that impact on water flows and quality.
2. Inspect and monitor performance
  • 2.1 Schedule and conduct routine inspections of rivers or waterways.
  • 2.2 Monitor water quality and flows of rivers.
  • 2.3 Determine adjustments required to flows based on hydraulics and environmental factors.
  • 2.4 Apply system adjustments to ensure that system performance meets organisational and statutory requirements.
3. Report on river performance
  • 3.1 Collect, interpret and report on process data.
  • 3.2 Compile river data report.
  • 3.3 Report observations outside defined parameters for further action.
