This unit of competency describes the outcomes required to convert timber residue from a process into products designed for further use.The unit applies to Engineered Timber Products Technician, Production Technician, Machine Operator, Timber Fabricator. No licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare for residue conversion processing operation
  • 1.1 Identify timber residue product outcome and determine conversion process.
  • 1.2 Review work order and confirm with appropriate staff.
  • 1.3 Assess timber residue in line with conversion process requirements.
  • 1.4 Select equipment for work requirements and check for operational effectiveness.
  • 1.5 Transfer and store timber residue in line with material handling specifications and chain of custody priorities.
2. Undertake conversion process
  • 2.1 Confirm product specifications and quality standards, and set plant and equipment to ensure outputs are compliant.
  • 2.2 Establish and maintain communication with others on site to ensure safety.
  • 2.3 Operate plant and equipment in line with safety standards, environmental requirements and residue output obligations and specifications.
  • 2.4 Monitor process, ensuring inputs and outputs are compliant with product specifications.
  • 2.5 Monitor, contain and dispose of waste in line with environmental and organisational protocols.
  • 2.6 Inspect products to ensure they meet work order.
  • 2.7 Transfer and store products in line with material handling specifications and chain of custody priorities.
3. Record outputs
  • 3.1 Tally and record product volumes and any associated additives required, for conversion to a marketable product.
  • 3.2 Record and report outputs for quality control and certification.
  • 3.3 Report variations to output in line with organisational requirements.
