Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop and discuss ideas for own creative work. It involves research and analysis, as well as the ability to take part in critical and informed discussion with others about the creative work for a particular art form.It applies to individuals who work across all areas of creative practice. This work would usually be carried out under mentored supervision.No licensing, legislative or certification conditions apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Research ideas for own creative work
  • 1.1 Identify and source information that supports the development of ideas for creative work
  • 1.2 Critically analyse information in the context of current and potential work and in relation to intellectual property considerations
2. Generate ideas for own creative work
  • 2.1 Develop a range of different, innovative and creative ideas based on the nature of own creative practice
  • 2.2 Analyse and integrate ideas generated from research
  • 2.3 Identify possible constraints on own ideas
  • 2.4 Select ideas based on research, analysis and relevant constraints
3. Discuss ideas with others
  • 3.1 Identify and seek out people who can provide valuable input to discussions about work ideas
  • 3.2 Present key information on own ideas and their process of development
  • 3.3 Facilitate discussion, debate and critical analysis of ideas using effective communication techniques
4. Adjust and refine ideas for own creative work
  • 4.1 Analyse the views and contributions of others
  • 4.2 Formulate analysis of own ideas based on personal aspirations and goals, and consideration of any intellectual property issues
  • 4.3 Refine own ideas based on analysis and interactions with others
