Description
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to operate a packaging system to pack, wrap and label paper products.The unit applies to production support operators who carry out routine tasks in packaging paper products for a paper manufacturing facility.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare for product packaging
- 1.1 Identify and confirm product packaging and wrapping requirements against order documentation
- 1.2 Plan and sequence work tasks according to workplace procedures and workplace health and safety requirements
- 1.3 Identify health and safety hazards and report safety concerns
- 1.4 Select and fit personal protective equipment for the tasks
- 1.5 Prepare and maintain work area for packaging according to housekeeping and environmental requirements
- 1.6 Check and prepare plant, systems and equipment according to workplace health and safety and operating procedures
2. Operate packaging system
- 2.1 Start up and operate packing systems according to operating procedures
- 2.2 Undertake operator-level maintenance requirements for packaging system
- 2.3 Monitor, control and undertake quality assessments of packing system, and rectify common faults or report to relevant personnel
- 2.4 Maintain packing supply levels according to packaging specifications
- 2.5 Undertake packing system adjustments for grade changes according to packaging specifications and operating procedures
3. Operate wrapping system
- 3.1 Start up and operate wrapping systems according to operating procedures
- 3.2 Undertake operator-level maintenance requirements for wrapping system
- 3.3 Monitor, control and rectify common faults of wrapping systems, or report to relevant personnel
- 3.4 Maintain wrapping materials and supply levels according to wrapping specifications
4. Label product
- 4.1 Undertake operator-level maintenance for labelling equipment
- 4.2 Monitor and control labelling system and rectify common faults or report to relevant personnel
- 4.3 Maintain labelling supplies according to operating procedures
