Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to implement traffic management plans in the transport and logistics industry.It includes planning, implementing, monitoring, evaluating, auditing and packing up a traffic management plan, and undertaking housekeeping duties in a control room and on site.Traffic management plans include those for public and private roads, parking areas and restricted access sites. This unit is appropriate for those working in operational roles within tunnel and open road operations.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Prepare for traffic management plan implementation
  • 1.1 Relevant documentation is accessed and interpreted in accordance with workplace procedures, regulatory requirements and codes of practice
  • 1.2 Safety requirements for allotted tasks are obtained, confirmed and applied in accordance with workplace policies, procedures and regulatory requirements
  • 1.3 Relevant signage and devices are identified, obtained and implemented in accordance with traffic management plan, workplace procedures and regulatory requirements
  • 1.4 Required tools and equipment are selected for traffic management plan
  • 1.5 Environmental protection requirements are identified and applied in accordance with workplace procedures and regulatory requirements
  • 1.6 Legislative/operational requirements for assigned traffic controller are checked and confirmed in accordance with workplace procedures and regulatory requirements
  • 1.7 Requirements for traffic flow are communicated appropriately in accordance with workplace procedures and regulatory requirements
  • 1.8 Work crew safety is appropriately considered in traffic management plan in accordance with workplace procedures and regulatory requirements
2 Implement traffic management plan
  • 2.1 Site-specific traffic management plan is selected in accordance with workplace procedures and regulatory requirements
  • 2.2 Traffic management plan requirements are determined, communicated and monitored in accordance with workplace procedures and regulatory requirements
  • 2.3 Signage and device positioning are checked in accordance with traffic management plan, workplace procedures and regulatory requirements
  • 2.4 Traffic management plan is appropriately adjusted on site in accordance with site-specific conditions as appropriate to ensure work crew safety, in accordance with workplace procedures and regulatory requirements
3 Monitor traffic management plan

  • 3.2 Traffic management plan adjustments are implemented in accordance with workplace procedures and regulatory requirements

4 Evaluate and audit traffic management plan

5 Pack up traffic management plan

6 Undertake housekeeping
