Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes required to finish and paint vehicle body and part surfaces.It applies to those in an automotive manufacturing environment and involves the application of skills and knowledge at a production worker level.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare for work processes
- 1.1 Work orders, instructions, reports and quality requirements are obtained and confirmed
- 1.2 Spray booths, and hand and air tools are selected and checked for correct operation and faults are rectified or reported
- 1.3 Paint materials are identified and selected from job specifications
2. Prepare surface for painting
- 2.1 Workplace procedures are identified and followed
- 2.2 Surfaces are cleaned, degreased and prepared according to workplace procedures
- 2.3 Final finishing is performed on components and panel surfaces to workplace standards
- 2.4 Reject components and surfaces are identified, recorded and reported for rework or scrap according to workplace procedures
3. Prime painted surfaces
- 3.1 Paint materials are mixed and applied according to workplace procedures
- 3.2 Painted surfaces are finished to workplace quality standard
- 3.3 Reject paintwork is identified, recorded and reworked according to workplace procedures
4. Complete work processes
- 4.1 Work area is cleaned, and materials disposed of or recycled according to workplace procedures
- 4.2 Tools and equipment are cleaned, checked and stored according to workplace procedures
- 4.3 Faulty equipment is tagged and reported to supervisor
- 4.4 Workplace documentation is completed according to workplace procedures
