This unit describes the performance outcomes required to install and fit out body, trimming and mechanical components.It applies to those working in an automotive manufacturing environment and involves the application of skills and knowledge at a production worker level.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare
  • 1.1 Identify and confirm work orders and job specifications
  • 1.2 Select tools, equipment and materials, checking for quality and safe operation according to job requirements
  • 1.3 Access assembly and installation information from manufacturer specifications
2. Select and use fasteners, adhesives, sealants and solvents
  • 2.1 Identify and follow workplace procedures
  • 2.2 Identify, select and fit fasteners to meet job requirements
  • 2.3 Identify, select and apply adhesives and sealants to meet job requirements
  • 2.4 Select and use solvents to remove excess adhesives and sealants
3. Install components
  • 3.1 Identify, select and match parts and components, according to work order and job specifications
  • 3.2 Position, secure and tension parts and components according to job specifications
  • 3.3 Inspect installed components and sub-assemblies, checking for quality and fit according to job specifications and workplace procedures
4. Route service lines
  • 4.1 Identify and locate service lines according to job requirements
  • 4.2 Route, tie and clip service lines according to job specifications
  • 4.3 Inspect and test installed service lines according to workplace procedures and job specifications
5. Complete work processes
  • 5.1 Collect unused materials and store or dispose of in line with workplace procedures
  • 5.2 Clean and maintain work area, checking and storing tools and equipment according to workplace procedures
  • 5.3 Identify, tag and report faulty equipment
  • 5.4 Complete work sheets and production records
