Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to use commercial technologies designed to streamline and speed translation tasks. It requires sound understanding of the applications and limitations of the technology. It includes the ability to reflect on the purpose and potential use of the source information in the translation and its implications for the technology.This unit applies to those working as translators using computer programs and software specific to translation and document production.The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State or Territory legislation, Australian Standards and industry codes of practice.No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Prepare to use translation technology.
- 1.1. Check translation technology and confirm familiarity and useability, and identify issues and limitations.
- 1.2. Select translation technology according to assignment requirements.
- 1.3. Confirm shared access to glossary and supporting documentation with client.
2. Use technology for translation.
- 2.1. Manage the technology’s translation assets, including memory, glossary and search functions to optimise productivity and efficiency.
- 2.2. Use translation technology to respond to mismatches and gaps in vocabulary and expressions and monitor adjustments to glossary and translation memory.
- 2.3. Address translation difficulties and transfer errors associated with the use of translation technology.
- 2.4. Resolve outstanding difficulties.
3. Evaluate the efficacy of translation technology.
- 3.1. Reflect on the suitability of the translation technology used and its ability to meet assignment requirements.
- 3.2. Record limitations concerning the use of technology.
