Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to apply safe work practices when refuelling vessels in a marina, including conducting pre-operational checks and completing post-refuelling operations and refuelling documentation.This unit applies to marina operators who refuel vessels in a marina and on water.This unit applies to individuals who provide assistance under supervision in the operational management of the marina.Licensing/Regulatory InformationNo licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Plan vessel refuelling
  • 1.1 Dangers of hazardous chemicals and vapours are established and recorded according to workplace policies, procedures and HAZCHEM requirements
  • 1.2 Precautions for minimising risks associated with volatile liquids are identified and recorded according to workplace policies, procedures and HAZCHEM requirements
  • 1.3 Safety and environmental requirements for refuelling vessel are identified and recorded according to workplace policies and procedures
  • 1.4 Fuel type is selected according to the vessel operators' instructions
  • 1.5 Pump is identified and selected according to the fuel type and vessel operators' instructions
  • 1.6 Procedures for refuelling are identified and followed according to workplace policies, procedures, relevant regulations and standards
  • 1.7 Emergency plan is accessed, reviewed and clarified with appropriate personnel
2 Prepare for refuelling
  • 2.1 Personal protective equipment (PPE) is identified, accessed and used according to workplace policies and procedures
  • 2.2 Firefighting and spill response equipment is located and checked, faulty and/or used equipment is replaced and faults are reported as required according to workplace policies, procedures and supervisor instructions
  • 2.3 Refuelling equipment is checked and secured according to workplace policies, procedures and supervisor instructions
  • 2.4 Vessel is positioned and secured for refuelling according to workplace policies, procedures and supervisor instructions
  • 2.5 Tank valves are opened as required, according to workplace policies, procedures and supervisor instructions
3 Refuel vessel
  • 3.1 Safety and environmental requirements for refuelling vessel are applied according to workplace policies, procedures and supervisor instructions
  • 3.2 Vessel is refuelled according to workplace policies, procedures, supervisor instructions and relevant regulations and standards
  • 3.3 Workplace policies, procedures and supervisor instructions are followed to contain spill and minimise environment or safety dangers as required
  • 3.4 Communication is maintained with relevant personnel to ensure the safety and integrity of vessel and/or crew during vessel refuelling
  • 3.5 Incidents which occur during vessel refuelling are responded to according to workplace policies, procedures and supervisor instructions
4 Complete refuelling
  • 4.1 Refuelling equipment is cleaned and stowed according to workplace policies and procedures
  • 4.2 Spillage response is carried out according to workplace procedures and regulatory requirements
  • 4.3 Required documentation is completed according to workplace policies and procedures
