Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to conduct basic strata control operations in coal mining, including operating basic support equipment and installing supports.It applies to those working in operational roles. They generally work under supervision to undertake a prescribed range of functions involving known routines and procedures and take some responsibility for the quality of work outcomes.Licensing, legislative and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories and industry sectors. 1. Plan and prepare to conduct basic strata control operations
- 1.1 Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
- 1.2 Access, interpret and apply documentation required for basic strata control operations
- 1.3 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures according to site requirements
- 1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment according to site requirements
- 1.5 Obtain and interpret emergency procedures and identify steps required to respond to emergencies
- 1.6 Access, interpret and apply mine, environmental, geological and survey data required to complete allocated work
- 1.7 Determine, obtain and transport resources according to job requirements
2. Install and secure support
- 2.1 Communicate job activities with others within scope of own role
- 2.2 Carry out equipment, materials and services check according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
- 2.3 Carry out prestart and start-up procedures according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
- 2.4 Scale down roof and ribs according to site requirements
- 2.5 Drill holes for rib and roof bolt installation according to site requirements
- 2.6 Install supports and secure according to site requirements
- 2.7 Identify and monitor to geological conditions and respond to changing conditions as required and within scope of own role
- 2.8 Monitor hazards and confirm safe operation of plant and equipment
- 2.9 Carry out park-up, shutdown and secure equipment procedures according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
3. Carry out operator maintenance
- 3.1 Prepare machine and equipment for maintenance according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
- 3.2 Conduct inspection and fault finding according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
- 3.3 Carry out scheduled maintenance tasks according to manufacturer specifications and site requirements
