Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop movement skills for different live performance contexts. The process may include developing movement skills used for dance, musical theatre and circus performances, and is relevant for both solo and ensemble contexts. The unit applies to those who are performers and who require high level movement skills to convey the mood and style of music through movement. Supervision is provided in practice sessions and rehearsals. Performers are also expected to demonstrate a high level of responsibility for themselves and others during live performances.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare to practise movement principles
- 1.1 Identify different movement patterns and their associated skills
- 1.2 Identify basic performance cues associated with movement patterns and skills
- 1.3 Research and identify different sources used to generate ideas for movement patterns and routines
- 1.4 Create practise and physical conditioning plan for movement skill development in consultation with required personnel
- 1.5 Perform basic warm-up and cool-down activities
- 1.6 Apply injury-prevention techniques in preparation
2. Practise and develop different movements and performance attributes
- 2.1 Practise full range of movement patterns using performance cues
- 2.2 Incorporate anatomical alignment principles into movement exercises
- 2.3 Practise controlling balance in different positions
- 2.4 Incorporate movement patterns into routines in ways that convey their dramatic intent
- 2.5 Incorporate basic rhythmic structures and musicality into movement routines
- 2.6 Interact smoothly and well-timed with other performers
- 2.7 Develop techniques for quickly incorporating unseen combinations
3. Review execution of movements and performance attributes
- 3.1 Identify and develop strategies for improving own movement skills using feedback from required personnel
- 3.2 Assess and analyse any injuries post practice and consult with required personnel as required
- 3.3 Analyse and integrate learnings from performances of others
