Description

To provide an industry relevant level of training in Information Systems and Information Technology suitable for graduates to be employed in a variety of roles in the Information Technology industry.

Two streams are offered that will allow the learner to specialise in:
- Software Engineering, Systems Development and Internet
Transaction Processing: Targeted jobs include - Programmer,
Analyst/Programmer, Assistant DBA
- Technical and User Support, Network and System Administration:
Targeted jobs include - Help Desk Officer, PC Support Officer,
Assistant Network or Systems Administrator.

In addition to the relevant technical subjects all learners will complete important interpersonal skills modules, eg. Presenting Information, Technical Report Writing, Workteam Communications, Client Interaction.

All learners will also complete a work experience module during their studies in the final semester. Graduates will be able to plan and manage their work tasks under broad guidance and will be able to work effectively in teams.

They should be able to provide assistance to others, and to a limited extent, plan and manage the work of others. This course provides advanced standing in University undergraduate courses.

Schedule
1. CORE

This course divides into two streams. Learners will be required to complete one of the following: a) Core modules AND Technical Stream modules AND Electives as stated OR b) Core modules AND Software Stream modules AND Electives as stated. NOTE: Learners who have successfully completed Certificate III of Information Technology or Certificate III of Software Applications, Hardware and Network Fundamentals and enrol in the Diploma will have to complete 120 hours of Maths modules (listed after the Core modules) in addition to the Core modules, Stream modules and Electives, unless they can provide evidence of a minimum "C" grade in an SEA accredited Maths subject at Year 12 level. Technical and User Support, Nework and Systems Administration Stream - 1517.5 hours Software Eng.
