Description

The Certificate II in Engineering Foundations is an entry level qualification intended to be used as a pre-apprenticeship, pre-apprenticeship in schools, or traineeship pathway to provide the skills, knowledge and vocational experience for learners, including school students, who are considering entering into an engineering apprenticeship.

The course is a combination of practical workshops, theoretical learning and work placement.

Career pathways include entry into any of the engineering apprenticeship trades with examples being:
- Engineering Tradesperson Fabrication (Boilermaking)
- Engineering Tradesperson Mechanical (Fitting and Machining)
- Engineering Tradesperson (Fixed Plant Mechanic)
- Engineering Tradesperson (Refrigeration and Air conditioning)
- Locksmithing

Schedule
Thirteen (13) units are required to complete this qualification.
- six (6) core units.
- seven (7) electives selected from the current trade qualification associated with the pathway.
- for the general pathway, units may be selected from any current Certificate III Engineering trade qualification.
- one (1) unit may be imported from any other current MEM qualification, provided it does not duplicate the outcome of other units chosen.

Elective units selected should be those that would be delivered early within the Certificate III trade qualification, should be lower level skill and knowledge to ensure the overall outcome from the core and elective units is maintained at an AQF level 2 outcome. Elective units should also contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome.

All pre-requisites must be packaged within this qualification.

Work Placement:
Relevant engineering industry Workplace Learning/Experience or Work Practice undertaken concurrently with delivery of this course is mandatory to achieve the qualification and consolidate student learning and skills development. The duration will depend on the delivery pathway (described above).

The elective units listed for each trade are a model program only. The electives for each trade group may be selected from the same trade Certificate III qualification as currently endorsed within the MEM Manufacturing and Engineering Training Package.
