1 The light vehicle commercial/light mechanical stream in Group 2 has been included to allow for greater client choice. The provider should liaise with their client group before selecting the stream. 2 Select a minimum of 2 modules (full equivalent) from Group 1. 3 Select TEN stream specific modules (full equivalent) from the modules in Group 2 to total 360 hours. The selection of the Light Mechanical (National) stream will determine the elective selection. That is, if the national light stream is selected, 31601 must be selected from Group 1. The modules 31601, 39505 and 39508 are all part of the light mechanical (national stream). 4 National Competency Standards for the RS & R sector Levels 1-3 indicate that elements of competency 016 and 104 are mandatory. NOTE: Road Transport Stream Module EL20 Anti-lock Braking Systems, which is aligned to 016 and 104, is therefore mandatory 5 Select an additional EIGHT modules from Group 1 or Group 2 or from the Mechanical stream of the NMEC Bank to total 288 hours. VET Info Notes
The course has two components requiring the Office of Energy (Statutory
Authority) input prior to the selection of the modules by the employer or the
college/provider. These relate to the LPG modules and the NREL modules.

1 LPG

The Office of Energy has granted permission for apprentices to undertake
accredited gasfitting training provided he/she is the holder of a restricted
licence during the course of their on-the-job training. The restricted licence
requires him/her to be supervised by an authorised gasfitter.

No restricted licence is required if the gasfitting work performed is part of
an accredited training course administered by accredited training providers.

The modules are:

- EL11 Alternative Fuels
- LPG Installing
- LPG Servicing
- LPG Installing (Small Engines)
- LPG Servicing (Small Engines)

Satisfactory completion of appropriate training is necessary to meet the
Regulatory Authority's Licensing requirements.

Categories of gasfitting license for which successful candidates may apply are
as follows:

1 Installation of LPG apparatus to mobile engines (Class E)

2 Servicing and checking of LPG apparatus to mobile engines (Class F)

3 Installation of LPG apparatus to small mobile and auxilling engines
(eg lawn mower, agitator, cherry picker). (Class E Restricted)

4 Servicing and checking of LPG apparatus to small mobile and auxilling
engines (Class F Restricted)

NOTE:

These Automotive LP gas training modules do not include the installation and/or
maintenance of stationary engines and associated pipework.

Candidates who wish to become licensed in this respect should consult the
licensing authority regarding the necessary supplement training requirements.

2 NREL

The Electrical Licensing Board will permit apprentices to undertake national
restricted electrical licence training as part of this course, provided
trainees can meet the NREL criteria. In particular, they must be able to
demonstrate a genuine need to carry out some electrical work as part of their
primary work function.

Employers and colleges/providers must be aware that although the course is
accredited, permission for NREL training using any of the NREL modules must be
obtained from the Electrical Licensing Board for each apprentice.

The "Work Area Categories" and "Units of Competence" to be achieved will depend
on the employers needs. Reference should be made to the NREL Information Guide
issued by the Electrical Licensing Board.

On-the-job training must be provided by a supervisor who holds an appropriate
electrical worker's licence. Training must be completed by the use of a
Training Record and Logbook, issued by the Office of Energy. This is separate
to the OIT on-the-job training schedule.

Off-the-job training must be provided by an Electrical Licensing Board approved
training provider.

This course replaces 1023, 1024, 1102, 1205 & 1243

THIS COURSE HAS BEEN REPLACED BY SEVERAL QUALIFICATIONS. PLEASE REFER TO
TRAINING PACKAGE AUR99 FOR DETAILS.
