Description
To provide students with the practical and theoretical skills necessary to be
able to:
-identify the presence of, and distinguish between, the broad groups of
horticultural pests and diseases
-list, evaluate and record the broad control or prevention methods for fruit,
vegetables, ornamental and nursery plants.

Internal Assessment 100%
This subject is to be assessed internally using competence as a measure of
student achievement.
The learner is required to demonstrate competency in each of the learning
outcomes in line with the assessment method shown.
Assessment will be based on an appropriate selection of the following methods:
-oral and/or written identification of the signs and symptoms of maladies on
plant specimens
-oral and/or written tests
-longer written answers as required
-assignment on a detailed pest and disease prevention program for a
horticultural amenity plant or production crop
Learners must obtain 70% for all identification tests to attain competency.
Overall pass mark for all tests, assignments, etc to be 60% to have attained
competency.
