Description
To provide the learner with basic knowledge of the need for water and its
sources.
To provide the learner with the practical ability to install, repair and
maintain an irrigation system.

Range of Variables
It would be preferable for learners to do this module in second semester so
that they can begin with the theory work in winter and then carry out the
subsequent practical work later as the weather becomes warmer and drier and
irrigation is necessary.
Delivery to take place in a classroom/workshop and/or a suitable workplace
and/or on excursions to provide:
-ready access to a suitable range of the fittings as listed in the assessment
criteria in sufficient quantity for the learners to observe the equipment and
practise the skills required
-ready access to sites with operational irrigation equipment to observe and
operate
-ready access to suitable sites to install a simple irrigation system.
Delivery may be by flexible (self-paced, external mode) provided that the
learner:
-has access to sites where irrigation is being maintained and installed, and

The learner is required to demonstrate competency in each of the learning
outcomes in line with the assessment method shown.
This subject is to be assessed internally using competence as a measure of
student achievement.
Assessment will be based on an appropriate selection of the following methods:
-short oral explanations of procedures
-longer written and/or oral tests and/or
-practical demonstration of the skills required.
