Description
To develop skills in objectively observing and
recording the behaviour of children, and using
this information to contribute to the program.

Range of Variables
1 The theoretical knowledge of objective and
ethical observation and recording of
children is covered in the module
'Observing and Recording Skills (50446).
2 The outcomes of this module must be
demonstrated on-the-job therefore completion
of this module is dependent upon the
student having access to a Supervised Field
Placement (SFP).
The SFP must be in a children's service that
provides care for children between the ages
of 0 to 5 and/or 5 to 12 years, eg. long
day care, occasional care, multipurpose
centre, out of school hours care, home based
care, and is appropriate for the course
enrolled in.
3 The placement and assessment of students on
SFP in the Certificate IV of Home Based
Child Care must follow the 'Guidelines for
ethical observation and recording of
