Description
To provide students with a basic theoretical
framework to cover soil and water conservation and
management of rangelands. The student is then
provided with information on management techniques
applicable to these topics. By the end of the
course the student should be able to assess problems
in soil, water and rangeland conservation and
provide management plans to alleviate the problem.
The student should also be able to carry out basic
technical work associated with these programs.
To provide students with a knowledge of the causes
of erosion and information on techniques for
assessment and treatment of the causes and effects
of erosion. The section on water conservation
covers farm water demand assessment and techniques
for providing and improving water catchment and
storage. These two sections are slanted towards the problems on farms in
the south-west of Western Australia.
To provide a theoretical background on Arid Zone
Ecosystems concentrating on soils and vegetation.
The section also covers Australian Pastoral Zone
Grazing Systems and provides information on
techniques for monitoring rangeland trends.
