Description
To enable learners to fully utilise the radar of a vessel operating in offshore
waters, with respect to navigation and collision avoidance.
Range of Variables
Off-the-job training in all aspects of the course. Practical training in the
setting up and interpretation of data from radar displays. Practical
navigation and radar plotting exercises using radar simulation.

Internal Assessment 100%

Demonstrate the ability to set up a radar display to obtain the optimum picture.

Demonstrate the ability to fix a vessel’s position using radar position lines.

Demonstrate the ability to determine a full report on a radar target and to
apply the collision regulations in determine actions to take and the
effectiveness of these actions.

A 1.5 hour examination paper, pass mark 60%, covering all learning outcomes,
and attempted on completion of learning.
