Description
To introduce an awareness of the skills and materials required in framing,
packaging and presentation.

To enable learners to realise the aesthetic value that finish contributes to
art works.

To introduce learners to aspects of paper.

To enable learners to understand the importance of archival properties in art
works.

To provide a working methodology that integrates finish into the process of
making.
Range of Variables
Module No’s 14767 Tools and Equipment, 14842 Material & Records and 14843
Theme and Concept Development represent the 153 hours of ‘Studio Materials and
Skills’ as detailed in the research findings. These units are an inseparable
block rather than three discrete units. In practice this block will require
team teaching or teamwork to ascertain what sections of each of the units the
lecturers involved will address. It would not be desirable that any single
lecturer be responsible for teaching all 153 hours of this block, nor would it
be desirable that the units be taught separately.

Assessment Method

Continuous assessment of the learning outcomes using assignments, projects
and/or practical exercises, based on the following criteria:

- use of materials and methods
- critical judgement
- generation of ideas
- design principles
- compliance with occupational health and safety procedures

Conditions of Assessment

Folio to be assessed by a panel on the following criteria:

- idea development
- practical skills
- concept interpretation
- demonstrated ability to appreciate the holistic approach of this
course by integrating skills and theories learned in concurrent modules.
