Description
The successful completion of this qualification provides you with the opportunity to become a trades assistant or gain an apprenticeship in one of the following trades within the metals and engineering sector: Mechanical-Machinist Metal, Mechanical Fitter, Fitter and Machinist, Marine Fitter, Plant Mechanic or Fabrication - Heavy or Light or the Marine Construction trade. The selection of the specialisation in phase 2 will determine the final trade outcome. You will need to be employed and registered as an apprentice or trainee before you can commence apprenticeship/traineeship training.

2. SPECIALISATION UNITS-PHASE 1 SAL:
Select all units in Group 1 and contextualise across the two of the three trade specialisations of Plant and Fabrication or Mechanical and Fabrication then selecting two of the related project units (90 hours) and Metals and Engineering Work Placement 1 and 2. Fabrication covers either Fabrication Delivery Strategy
The Pre apprentice program is designed for holistic delivery and assessment. The project based units will ensure the delivery strategies incorporate the mandatory units and the elective units. The following will apply:
- Metals and Engineering Project 1 (incorporating mandatory units)
- Metals and Engineering Project 2 (incorporating mandatory and specialisation units)
- Metals and Engineering Project 3 (Holistic assessed final project incorporating mandatory and specialisation units and employability skills within a simulated workplace).
The Work Placement units will require the RTO to:
- Ensure the workplace has been inspected and has appropriate OH&S procedures in place and a range of suitable resources
- Ensure evidence of competence is gathered by the host employer and the learner that is related to the units they have undertaken in the RTO
- a minimum of one visit to the workplace to mentor the learner and liaise with the supervisor
