Description
This qualification covers the skills and knowledge required to undertake specialist service and repair work on vehicles within the automotive service and repair sector. It is suitable for entry into the automotive specialist service and repair sector.
Job roles/employment outcomes
The Certificate III in Automotive Specialist is intended to prepare new employees or recognise and develop existing workers who service and repair specialist systems and components of cars and other vehicles.
Employment outcomes targeted by this qualification include:
automotive mechanics.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS28 units of competence at levels 2, 3 or 4 are required to complete this qualification within the specific requirements as set out below:
NOTE:
- A maximum of 13 units of competence may be at level 2, and
- A maximum of 2 units of competence may be at level 4
- Refer to Appendix 1 for Unit Inventories.

- a maximum of 6 units of competence that meet the enterprise needs may be chosen from other qualifications in this Training Package, other Training Packages and accredited courses.

Nineteen units of competence must be completed from the TECHNICAL INVENTORY.

4. Diesel Fuel
DESCRIPTOR: DIESEL FUEL - Units designated as CORE must be completed when using this descriptor. The remaining units designated as ELECTIVE may be substituted by referring to the qualification structuring rules.
5. Driveline
DESCRIPTOR: DRIVELINE - Units designated as CORE must be completed when using this descriptor. The remaining thirteen (13) units designated as ELECTIVE may be substituted by referring to the qualification structuring rules.
6. Engine Reconditioning
DESCRIPTOR: ENGINE RECONDITIONING - Units designated as CORE must be completed when using this descriptor. The remaining eleven (11) units designated as ELECTIVE may be substituted by referring to the qualification structuring rules.
7. Forklift Mechanical
DESCRIPTOR: FORKLIFT MECHANICAL - Units designated as CORE must be completed when using this descriptor. The remaining sixteen (16) units designated as ELECTIVE may be substituted by referring to the qualification structuring rules.
8. Gas Vehicle
DESCRIPTOR: GAS VEHICLE - Units designated as CORE must be completed when using this descriptor. The remaining units designated as ELECTIVE may be substituted by referring to the qualification structuring rules.
9. Steering and Suspension
DESCRIPTOR: STEERING AND SUSPENSION - Units designated as CORE must be completed when using this descriptor. The remaining units designated as ELECTIVE may be substituted by referring to the qualification structuring rules.
10. Transmission
DESCRIPTOR: TRANSMISSION - Units designated as CORE must be completed when using this descriptor. The remaining units designated as ELECTIVE may be substituted by referring to the qualification structuring rules.
11. Electives
ELECTIVES - Six (6) units of competence from the Automotive Retail, Service and Repair Training Package AUR05 or any endorsed Training Package and accredited courses that meets the needs of the enterprise must be completed.
