Description

This qualification covers workers who perform hearing screenings and assessments to identify hearing impairment and to take appropriate action. This action may include referral for further audiological or medical assessment; coordinating programs for the prevention of hearing loss; and/or care management and education programs.

Workers in this area work in the area of medical or industrial provision of audiometric assessments. They may work in ear nose and throat specialist clinics, audiology or audiometry practices, Industrial settings or community and regional health settings.

Workers at this level do not prescribe or dispense hearing aids and are not qualified to work as independent practitioners.

This qualification is suited to Australian Apprenticeship pathways.

11 units of competency are required for award of this qualification, including:
- 7 core units
- 4 elective units

A wide range of elective units is available, including:
- Group A WHS elective which is required for work in audiometric assessment
- Group B electives which are recommended for culturally aware and respectful practice
- Other relevant electives listed in the qualification outline
- Units of competency to address workplace requirements and packaged at the level of this qualification or higher in Health and/or Community Services Training Packages
- Where appropriate, to address workplace requirements, up to two (2) units of competency packaged at the level of this qualification or higher in other relevant Training Packages or accredited courses where the details of those courses are available on TGA or other public listing
