Description
This qualification covers occupational outcomes for shearing at the professional level. This requires a high standard of workmanship at a rate of at least 120 adult merino sheep or 140 adult crossbred sheep per day. The shearing industry expects this qualification to be achieved to meet job outcomes at this level.
This qualification is suitable for an Australian Apprenticeship.
Job titles relevant to this qualification include:
- Shearer - professional level.

Packaging Rules
To achieve this qualification, competency must be demonstrated in:- eight (8) units of competency
- seven 7) core units, plus
- one (1) elective unit.
Elective units must ensure the integrity of the qualification’s Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) alignment and contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome. The electives are to be chosen as follows:
- one (1) from the electives listed below, or from any currently endorsed Training Package or accredited course.

Entry Requirements
Prior to commencing this qualification, individuals must have the skills and knowledge to:
- catch and shear sheep to novice level
- work independently and within a team in wool harvesting
- make judgements on the selection of equipment, techniques and contingency measures relating to safe work practices and animal welfare principles
- apply and communicate solutions to predictable situations in an animal care workplace.
These skills and knowledge may have been acquired through completion of a Certificate II in Shearing or through industry shearing experience.
