Description
This qualification covers workers employed by State Ambulance authorities to provide advanced emergency care and transport services. Occupational titles for this role include:
Intensive care paramedic
Mobile intensive care ambulance paramedic

ENTRY REQUIREMENTSTo gain entry into this qualification, candidates must demonstrate competence through a recognised training program or recognition process, in the following units of competency from the Diploma of Paramedical Science (Ambulance):
HLTAMBAE501D Implement safe access and egress in an emergency
HLTAMBAS501B Conduct clinical assessment (Note pre-requs: HLTAP401B, HLTAMBCR401B)
HLTAMBCR502C Deliver standard clinical care (Note pre-requs: HLTAP401B, HLTAMBCR401B)
HLTAMBFC402C Communicate in complex or difficult situations (Note pre-requ: HLTAMBFC301C)
HLTAMBPD401C Manage personal stressors in the work environment
HLTAMBSC401B Manage routine scene and promote public safety
HLTHIR402D Contribute to organisational effectiveness in the health industry
HLTWHS456A Identify, assess and control WHS risk in own work
PACKAGING RULES
Nine (9) units of competency are required for this qualification, including:
- seven (7) core units
- two (2) elective units
A wide range of elective units is available, including:
- Group A electives which are recommended for culturally aware and respectful practice
- Other relevant electives listed in the qualification oultine
- Units of competency to address workplace requirements and packaged at the level of this qualification or higher in Health and/or Community Services Training Packages
- Where appropriate, to address workplace requirements, up to two (2) units of competency packaged at the level of this qualification or higher in other relevant Training Packages
