Description
This unit of competency covers the skills and knowledge required to fabricate a recreational vehicle chassis and assemble a suspension to it. The work will be carried out in a recreational vehicle manufacturing facility.This unit of competency covers the preparation for, fabrication and assembly of a recreational vehicle chassis and suspension.The operator will be required to work to procedures, and follow plans/specifications for what is required.This unit of competency applies to an individual working alone or as part of a team/work group and working in liaison with other shift team members.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Plan the work
- 1.1 Review the requirements of the work
- 1.2 Check required tools and jigs are available at the worksite
- 1.3 Check required materials and components are available at the worksite
- 1.4 Identify any hazards and the related hazard controls
- 1.5 Check the hazard controls are in place and operational
- 1.6 Query any items that are different to usual and clarify requirements
2 Fabricate the chassis in accordance with procedures
- 2.1 Use relevant hazard controls, including personal protective equipment (PPE)
- 2.2 Mark out chassis material as required
- 2.3 Cut chassis components to specification
- 2.4 Assemble chassis components in jig or as required
- 2.5 Weld chassis components as specified
- 2.6 Check chassis alignment and adjust if required
- 2.7 Apply any protective coating required as part of fabrication
3 Assemble suspension to chassis in accordance with procedures
- 3.1 Use relevant hazard controls, including PPE
- 3.2 Assemble suspension components to chassis
- 3.3 Adjust suspension component as required
- 3.4 Fix suspension components to chassis
- 3.5 Complete suspension/chassis system as required
4 Finish the suspension and chassis system
- 4.1 Check chassis and suspension are correct and make any required adjustments
- 4.2 Clean up chassis and suspension system and work area, leaving it ready for the next job
- 4.3 Ensure any items which may still be hot are treated appropriately
- 4.4 Segregate and handle waste in accordance with procedures
- 4.5 Complete any required documentation/records
