This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to work effectively in the music industry.It applies to individuals who are required to apply some judgement and operate under broad supervision within an established framework of plans and procedures, including musicians, composers, administrators, sound mixers, editors and recordists. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication

1. Maintain current knowledge and skills in the music industry
  • 1.1 Identify industry trends and emergent technologies in the music industry, using appropriate sources of information
  • 1.2 Identify impacts of music industry trends on own work practice
  • 1.3 Liaise with relevant people to identify learning opportunities to incorporate trends and emergent technologies in own work practice
  • 1.4 Identify copyright requirements in the music industry to ensure compliance with current legislation
  • 1.5 Undertake identified learning opportunities to improve own work practices
2. Establish work and contractual relationships
  • 2.1 Share information and ideas with relevant stakeholders in the music industry
  • 2.2 Discuss work scope, identify issues and establish solutions
  • 2.3 Discuss, confirm and document agreements and contracts with relevant people
  • 2.4 Use effective techniques to maintain work and contractual relationships
