Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes skills and knowledge required to find ideas and use artistic techniques in creative work. The unit reflects an introductory level integrated creative process, where ideas and practical application come together for the production of work.

1. Find ideas
- 1.1 Identify and collect information about ideas for creative work
- 1.2 Organise information in a way that helps the development of ideas
- 1.3 Review information and draw out ideas for creative work with assistance from key people
- 1.4 Select ideas based on information reviewed with assistance from others as required
2. Prepare for creative work
- 2.1 Prepare resources according to relevant procedures and safety requirements under supervision from others
- 2.2 Check work space for cleanliness and safety
- 2.3 Store resources according to relevant procedures and safety requirements
3. Apply creative techniques
- 3.1 Identify and follow steps required to develop creative work
- 3.2 Use tools and materials safely to develop creative work
- 3.3 Seek feedback and help from key people
- 3.4 Apply feedback to future work

apply techniques using tools and materials safely to develop creative work
seek feedback and help from key persons.
Context of and specific resources for assessment
Assessment must ensure access to:
appropriate resources to apply techniques for creative work, such as tools, equipment and materials.
Method of assessment
A range of assessment methods may be used to assess practical skills and knowledge. The following examples are appropriate for this unit:
direct observation of the candidate using techniques
questioning and discussion about the candidate’s intentions and work outcome
review of work produced by the candidate
review of portfolios of evidence
review of third-party reports from experienced practitioners.
Assessment methods should closely reflect workplace demands (e.g. literacy) and the needs of particular groups (e.g. people with disabilities and people who may have literacy or numeracy difficulties, such as speakers of languages other than English, remote communities and those with interrupted schooling).

Holistic assessment with other units relevant to the industry sector, workplace and job role is recommended.
