Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to follow work health and safety (WHS) requirements in live production environments such as stages, arenas, theatres, performance venues and galleries. This unit applies to those who are required to identify their individual WHS responsibilities and implement procedures to work safely in a live production work context.The National Standard for Licensing Persons Performing High Risk Work applies to persons performing dogging and rigging work. Completion of the following units is required for certification at either basic, intermediate or advanced levels:CPCCLDG3001 Licence to perform doggingCPCCLRG3001 Licence to perform rigging basic levelCPCCLRG3002 Licence to perform rigging intermediate levelCPCCLRG4001 Licence to perform rigging advanced level.Different work tasks within a live production environment may fall within the definition of construction work. If so, people entering a construction site are required to complete the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction for Construction Work (Commonwealth of Australia, 2007).Achievement of the unit ‘CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry’ fulfils this requirement.Users are advised to check with the relevant licensing authority for requirements.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Determine health and safety and legislative requirements
  • 1.1 Identify roles, responsibilities and rights of different live production personnel according to jurisdictional health and safety legislative requirements
  • 1.2 Determine duty of care requirements for different live production personnel
  • 1.3 Determine first aid and emergency procedures, including psychological first-aid, for different live production environments
  • 1.4 Identify and assess safe work practices and mental well-being practices in live production environments
  • 1.5 Identify and assess roles of health and safety personnel in live production environments, including mental health
  • 1.6 Develop and maintain own knowledge of applicable WHS legislation, codes of practice and workplace policies and procedures
2. Implement safe work practices
  • 2.1 Apply legislative requirements, safety documentation, signage and symbols to work tasks
  • 2.2 Use personal protective equipment and other measures as required to prevent injury and impairment
  • 2.3 Use tools, equipment and materials according to safe work practices
  • 2.4 Participate in WHS consultative activities
  • 2.6 Assess mental well-being risks and discuss mental health maintenance with personnel
3. Participate in hazard identification and risk assessment and control
  • 3.1 Develop and maintain own knowledge of basic risk management principles
  • 3.2 Identify and report hazards or WHS issues in the workplace to required personnel
  • 3.2 Assess and control risks in line with workplace policies and procedures
  • 3.3 Document risk control actions as required according to workplace policies and procedures
  • 3.4 Contribute to reporting workplace WHS, hazard, accident and incident reports as required
  • 3.5 Document and apply mental health and well-being strategies
4. Follow emergency procedures
  • 4.1 Report emergencies and incidents promptly to required personnel and authorities according to workplace policies and procedures
  • 4.2 Respond to emergencies in line with own level of responsibility
  • 4.3 Implement evacuation procedures as required
